While Apple is busy working on this year’s new iPhone 15, rumours and design leaks are aplently.
Judging by previous years’ leaks, some of them can be very close to the final product.
After months of leaks saying Apple would ditch the physical volume and power buttons on this year’s iPhone 15 Pro, respected tech analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo, has said otherwise.
‘My latest survey indicates that due to unresolved technical issues before mass production, both high-end iPhone 15 Pro models (Pro & Pro Max) will abandon the closely-watched solid-state button design and revert to the traditional physical button design,’ wrote Kuo in a Medium post.
Additionally, a user on Douyin (the Chinese version of TikTok) has shared a video of an alleged iPhone 15 Pro dummy. This appears to be in line with renders shared by 9to5Mac last week.
If true, the new iPhone should have a titanium frame, USB-C port, thinner bezels and new colours.
Despite the big ‘no buttons’ change being dropped, the iPhone 15 is still expected to feature one crucial difference.
Due to an EU law passed last year, Apple will have to change the charging port on the bottom of the new iPhone to a USB-C connection.
This is the standard used by the vast majority of phones, tablets and laptops (even Apple’s own iPads and MacBooks) but Apple has always stuck resolutely to its proprietary Lightning port when it comes to the iPhone.
According to another leak, the iPhone 15 Pro could have a mute button instead of the mute switch which has been a standard since the very first one.
Other expected changes include, The Dynamic Island, which was exclusive to the Pro models in 2022, which might trickle down to the standard iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Max in 2023.
In September, Apple is widely expected to reveal its iPhone 15 lineup of flagship smartphones.
Like last year, 2023’s range is expected to consist of four models: the base iPhone 15, an iPhone 15 Max, an iPhone 15 Pro, and an iPhone 15 Pro Max.
There’s a chance that the latter device might be branded as the iPhone 15 Ultra, costing a whopping £1,199. However, a more recent report suggests this branding might not be used until 2024.
